Recently, some folks asked me to post some of the links I mention in my seminars on YA literature. So, check out Susan Ohanian's web site if you want to see the outrages in education: http://susanohanian.org/. And if you want to join your voice with thousands of other educators, sign the petition asking for the end to NCLB: http://www.educatorroundtable.org/index.html.
The lists I discuss are available at the Young Adult Library Services Associaiton of ALA at: www.ala.org/yalsa/. There you will find Quick Picks, Books for the College Bound, Best Books for Young Adults, and many more.
Here is a link for an online class I am conducting for YALSA in the spring of 2007.
From here you can jump to some other sites that might be of interest to you. First, take a peek at my blog. I began blogging about a little more than a year ago, and it has turned into one of my favorite things to do. I finish a book, blog it, and then I always have a record of my thoughts and feelings. I use the blog to update my lists of books each year as well. What I have found most rewarding is that fellow bloggers write back. I have heard from authors, teachers, and other folk. We talk about the books and a wide range of other topics as the mood dictates. So, take a side trip and see the blog. Join in the conversation.

A few years ago, I joined SDR as a consultant. Now, I travel across the country conducting one day seminars in young adult literature. Entitled, HOT OFF THE PRESS: THE BEST NEW BOOKS AND HOW TO USE THEM, the seminars offer 5.5 hours of continuing education credit. I do about 4-5 sessions per season. To find out when and where I will be next, visit the link below. The Fall 06 schedule has me in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, and Columbia, SC. Here is the link to SDR:
If you want to learn more about the talented individuals who write for young adults, you need to take a gander at Don Gallo's Authors4Teens web site. You can log in for a free preview and learn about the lives and works of such literary luminaries as Joan Bauer, Chris Crutcher, Jack Gantos, David Lubar, Han Nolan, and a host of others. Don's interviews are insightful, and he adds updates continuously. Disclaimer: I write an occasional piece for the web site called "Teri's Corner." Here is how to preview the site:
Each year, the Department of Library Science at Sam Houston State University hosts a literature conference that features children's and YA authors of note. A day of general sessions and workshops is held the first Saturday of November each year. You can link to our home page for more information. I will also post information here as it is available. Mark calendars now for November of 2006 when we present Gary Paulsen and Marc Brown.
You can read excerpts from MAKING THE MATCH: THE RIGHT BOOK FOR THE RIGHT PEOPLE AT THE RIGHT TIME by visiting Stenhouse's web site. There is also a link there with a short video clip of me talking about my passion: creating readers.
